The library is free for anyone to browse. You must have a library card if you wish to borrow library materials. Anyone living in Wiscasset, Alna, Edgecomb, or Westport, or students and teachers of the Wiscasset School System and patrons of one of the libraries belonging to the Midcoast Borrowing Cooperative may have a free library card. All other people must pay an annual fee or borrow our books through their own library by interlibrary loan. Identification is required when applying for a library card. You must show identification with a current mailing address. All children through the eighth grade must register in the Children’s Room. A parent’s signature is required.
Library patrons may borrow most materials from the library for 2 weeks, with a limit of one each of new fiction and new non-fiction. No renewals are done on books that have a reserve attached. Others may be renewed in person or by telephone up to three times. Art reproductions circulate for 4 weeks and are renewable.
Overdue notices are periodically sent as a reminder to patrons. If books are over one month overdue, you may not borrow more books until the overdue ones are returned. The library does not charge overdue fines on any material except videos. We do have a guilt box and any contributions are gratefully accepted. Damaged or lost items must be paid for or replaced with the same title. You are responsible for anything that you borrow, please, do not loan them to others.

Interlibrary loan materials are available at this library and may be obtained on order. Using a number of online databases, we can search by author, title, or subject. The Friends of the Wiscasset Public Library are generously paying the return postage so patrons may now enjoy this service without charge. There is still a $1.00 per day fee for late interlibrary loans.
Free internet access is available to all visitors. There is no need to be a library member. Everyone is welcome to use this valuable resource. We have Wi-Fi so you may bring your laptop and use our connection.
